I was pleased to meet the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at a reception in the House of Commons last week.
Sheikh Hasina has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since January 2009 and was previously PM for four years between 1996 and 2001. I first met her a few years ago.
We are a diverse community in Northampton and I have worked to support all groups in the constituency. We have a sizeable community from Bangladesh and several months ago I co-sponsored a football match in which many young people took part.
Sheikh Hasina is a great advocate of improving women’s rights around the globe. Britain works to support equality on a global level, whether it be on race, sex or sexual orientation grounds, and we wish her well in her endeavours.
