Sajid Javid MP, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, came to Northampton on Thursday morning as my guest.
Sajid is a modern face of the Conservative Party: a Muslim man whose father was a bus driver, Sajid worked hard, was successful and was elected a Conservative MP in 2010.
I arranged a meeting for him with several members of the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation (IHWO) as they are fundraising to build the new Northampton Kutumb Centre- a state of the art community complex that will be built on Lings Way.
The Kutumb Centre (or ‘wider family’ Centre) will be very eco-friendly, innovative and open to people of all backgrounds and ages. There will be an adjoining Hindu temple, funded by members of the Hindu community, and in the wider centre there will be state of the art sports, leisure, educational and enterprise facilities for everyone in the community- including local schools.
I have previously held an event in the House of Commons in support of this development and to get the business and political community behind this ambitious project.
