I was delighted to be visited on the campaign trail by George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on Monday.
George Osborne had an unenviable challenge when he took up the job in May 2010 - bringing the economy back from the appalling state that it was left in by the previous Labour Government. When the Conservative-led Government took office we were in a worse economic shape than countries like Greece and Portugal. We are now the fastest growing economy in the G7, 2 million new jobs have been created, growth has returned strongly and whilst doing this we have also cut taxes for more than 35,000 people in Northampton North, taking more than 4,000 of the lowest paid people in Northampton North out of having to pay income tax altogether.
It was this economic resurgence that George came to promote in Northampton North on Monday. I took him to Arnold Engineering Plastics on the Moulton Park Industrial Estate. The company employs 46 people in our town and they recognise how important it is that a Conservative Government is in place after the election - the Managing Director of the company was one of 5,000 small and medium sized business owners to sign a letter to the Daily Telegraph saying that the Conservatives must be allowed to complete their hard work on the economy.
Northampton North is a very important seat and a vote here for anyone but the Conservatives will mean that rather than continuing with the economic competence of David Cameron and George Osborne we would face the chaos of Ed Miliband in Number 10 Downing Street, propped up and held to ransom by Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP.
